About Us
Guild Cottage is a specialist non-profit residential treatment centre in Johannesburg. Situated in Parktown West, the centre runs a residential treatment programme for sexually abused children (aged between 6 and 18 years) that are put into our care by the courts. Guild can house up to 18 children who are provided with intensive therapy in a warm and loving environment while under our care.
Started in 1907, Guild Cottage was originally a home for orphans and children in distress, but in the 1980s took up its present function. Over the past 10 years, Guild Cottage has also developed a Community Outreach Programme with the objective of educating and empowering the community to curb the rise of child sexual abuse.
Our Mission
Guild Cottage believes that vulnerable and wounded children have the capacity to learn, to heal, and to grow. We believe that interdependent relationships that practise and teach mutual respect, responsibility, honesty, and trust play an integral and powerful role in a child’s growth and development at all stages of life.
We believe that self-sufficiency is intrinsic to human dignity and to society’s health and prosperity. These beliefs are the foundation upon which our mission rests and upon which we pledge the resources and talents of a caring and accountable organisation. By investing in experienced, professional staff, in a high-quality, well-managed facility, we remain committed to delivering the best standard of care to the vulnerable children we serve.
